Xaverian College - Classroom Facilities

Brief

The St Edwards site at Xaverian College required 10 temporary classrooms during the works to upgrade the College Campus with a new build Sunbury building. The brief was to provide a bespoke L-shaped layout to suit the available plot of land.

Project Scale

12 on 12 9.75m x 3m two storey classroom block with internal staircase.

Challenges

The project presented several challenges:

  • Coordination with Other Contractors: SiBCAS had to work in conjunction with various other contractors engaged in the demolition of an existing church building, which was partially on the footprint of the modular location.
  • Groundworks: Extensive new groundworks were required under the building to provide a new Storm Bloc storage tank and Oil Separator tank.
  • Site Conditions: The site was considerably sloping, and there was an old boundary wall in poor condition. These factors necessitated multiple changes to the exact location of the building.
  • Installation Constraints: The installation required the use of a 150-ton crane and a specialist LMC to install the building in a highly restrictive area. Access to the site was also very restrictive, requiring extensive work to minimise damage to the ornamental gate posts.

Solution

SiBCAS designed and delivered a custom modular building solution that met the specific requirements of the Xaverian College project. The bespoke L-shaped layout was carefully planned to fit the available plot of land. The two-storey classroom block was constructed with an internal staircase, providing a functional and efficient space for the college during the upgrade works.

Outcome

Despite the challenges and resulting delays, SiBCAS successfully handed over a high-quality building. The temporary classrooms provided an environment that met the highest possible standards expected of such an outstanding and prestigious institution. The project was completed to the satisfaction of all parties involved, demonstrating SiBCAS's ability to deliver complex modular building solutions in challenging conditions.

Testimonial

From the start of the procurement process, through to installation, SiBCAS provided a professional service and ensured we were kept up to date with the progress of the project and the timelines for ground prep, delivery etc. They listened to the specification requirements for our temporary accommodation and delivered on that specification. When we later tweaked our requirements, they were agile and could accommodate these changes with minimal fuss.
