BRIEF
To provide and supply three classrooms with toilets for students aged 11-16 for the Royal School in Wolverhampton whilst the school was being refurbished.
PROJECT SCALE
Size: 27.45m x 9.75m single storey PermaSpace
BUILDING USE
Delays in the school’s refurbishment, resulted in the school requiring 3 classrooms late in the summer term; however, the classrooms were needed for the first day of the new school year in September, thus the ESFA requested a full turnkey package. The ESFA authorised the Sibcas design for 3 general classrooms with WCs and accessible provisions, furniture, ramps, steps, alarms, data package, and all civils and groundworks after presenting the customer with a design and demonstrating prior delivery of turnkey packages.
Sibcas was the Principal Contractor for the entire duration of the project. Sibcas were also granted the complete contract in the last week of July following a competitive pricing procedure and began work the first week of August.
CHALLENGES
The site was next to a sports and leisure complex that would remain open throughout the duration of the project. Sibcas therefore had to take all necessary safeguards to protect the safety of all project stakeholders and members of the public. Sibcas created a building phase plan that included a detailed site set-up as well as a traffic and pedestrian control strategy to ensure a safe yet productive site.
OUTCOME
The building was delivered and handed over on budget and earlier than the client expected. The on-site management and planning were a great success leaving an extremely satisfied customer.
